Seyed Mohsen Emadi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Romania, stated during his speech at the 12th Conference of the Middle East Institute for Political and Economic Studies, held in Bucharest on 25 June 2026 under the theme "The Middle East: Confronting Fragmentation and Examining the New Balance of Power", that: "Regional security cannot be ensured through military aggression or by marginalizing Iran."

He further emphasized that security in the Middle East can only be achieved through cooperation, mutual understanding, and respect for the interests of all countries in the region.

In his first appearance at an academic event in Romania since the beginning of his mission, the Iranian Ambassador stressed the importance of dialogue on regional security and referred to the historical relations between Iran and Romania. He stated: "This is my first participation in a specialized academic forum since my arrival in Bucharest, Romania—a country with which we enjoy historical and friendly relations. The importance of the subject of this forum, namely 'Security in the Middle East,' as well as the significance of this gathering itself, is evident to all."

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran noted that the security issues of the Middle East have complex causes, many of which originate outside the region. He stated that security in the Middle East is a complex and multidimensional issue whose roots largely lie in strategic and ideological objectives originating beyond the region. These objectives, primarily shaped by self-interest, have fueled persistent instability and insecurity and have sown the seeds of conflicts that have exposed the region to devastating wars for decades.

According to him, these policies have had catastrophic consequences for civilians. This hegemonic approach has led to several horrific tragedies in the region, where some of the most unprecedented acts of violence against innocent people have taken place, resulting in crimes against humanity, serious violations of international humanitarian law, and war crimes.

Referring to the situation in Iran, Mohsen Emadi stated: "Over the past year, the Islamic Republic of Iran has endured two major imposed wars. During these unprovoked military attacks, which lasted for 12 and 40 days respectively, we demonstrated our self-confidence, resilience, and national capabilities."

The Iranian diplomat emphasized that his country's security relies on domestic resources rather than external guarantees. In this regard, he stated: "We do not rely on any foreign power to guarantee our security. On the contrary, our security rests upon our people, our national solidarity and unity, and the capabilities of our own armed forces."

In the Ambassador's view, recent experiences have demonstrated that stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved through military confrontation. He stated that the experience of recent aggression showed that regional security cannot be ensured either through military aggression or through excluding and marginalizing Iran.

He added that countries across the region have increasingly come to recognize the necessity of a cooperative approach: "Countries throughout the region have increasingly realized that sustainable security and regional stability, particularly in the Persian Gulf, can only be secured through cooperation, mutual understanding, and respect for the shared interests of all countries."

In conclusion, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Romania wished the participants in the discussions of the Conference of the Middle East Institute for Political and Economic Studies success in their deliberations and expressed hope that the meeting would contribute to identifying solutions for strengthening security and stability in the Middle East.
